The Raiwaqa (pronounced Raiwangah) and Raiwai area in Fiji are “suburbs” close to Fiji’s Capital City of SUVA. A large proportion of the population is underprivileged with high youth unemployment. Naturals with vocal chords and an ear for music, most hang out in the neighborhood using crude instruments and sometimes discarded guitars to make music.
Many local artists have emerged from Raiwaqa to prominence in the local club and tourist resort scene, a few internationally. A music “hall” is being established to encourage youth to take up music and the arts to give the kids a sense of purpose and direction in life. Funding will go toward musical instruments including horns that has the potential to change the sound of music in the country.
So much raw talent that can be harnessed in this area, this PFC Day event is intended to create awareness of the music hall, and raise funds for instruments and instruction. Top local and ex-Fiji residents living and playing abroad have pledged to support this cause. This PFC day will help trigger development. Supported by major food manufacturing company and its partners, will add administration and audit integrity to the cause.
